About Recreation
The primary emphasis of the recreation program is the enjoyment of playing soccer.
We play "small-sided" soccer, or between 3 and 8 players on the field depending on the age group. Small sided soccer allows players to get more touches on the ball, be more involved in the game, and have more fun while improving their skills.
Players can play fall only, spring only or full season (fall and spring). Spring season is usually April and the first three or four weekends of May, ending the weekend before Memorial Day.
Spring season registration usually begins in January. Fall season is September and October, with registration beginning in June. Most games are played throughout the day on Saturday, although teams may have one or two Sunday afternoon games. Practices are once a week for younger age groups, increasing to twice a week as players get older. All games are officiated by a certified referee.
Recreational soccer is offered for players beginning at age 4 and continuing until age 17, also known as U5 (Under 5) to U18 (Under 18). Teams are coached by volunteers, and all coaches are required to pass an entry level coaches certification offered by IYSA.
A summer camp is available each summer under the direction of the Director of Coaching for Westfield Select, which is the Travel Program division of WYSA. This camp is a offered every night for a week to all recreational players who wish to improve their skills in a fun atmosphere.
Players do not have to live in Westfield to play within WYSA. We have players from Carmel, Noblesville, Zionsville and the other surrounding areas.
WYSA is entirely a volunteer organization, so we do ask that everyone contribute in any way possible. Without parental support we could not exist nor could we continue to serve the approximately 1000 players we serve each season.
